THE WORLD IN AN AMBER / IRELAND
“The Gloaming” are one of the most extraordinary representatives of world music on the European stage. Their original repertoire is at the crossroads where the traditional Irish folk music intersects with the nuances of contemporary, jazz and experimental music, thus acquiring a fresh sound.
Each of the band’s members have independently successful careers as performers, composers, arrangers or producers; however, coming together under “The Gloaming”, they have created something entirely new. Their creative improvisations and musical expressions, based on their massive knowledge and experience in the classical music, have given a new taste to the traditional Irish music. The instrumental accompaniment is in the hands of the violinist Martin Hayes, Ireland, guitar player Dennis Cahill, USA, pianist Thomas Bartlett, USA and violinist Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, Ireland, while the vocalist Larla Ó Lionáird, Ireland, brings a deeply soulful note to the performance.
The debut album “The Gloaming” was finished in the summer of 2013, and was released in January 2014. The most prestigious music reviewers – “BBC Radio 2”, “The Guardian”, “Irish Times”, “Mojo” and “NPR Music” – have named the album one of the finest records of 2014. After their debut, the band released their second album “2” in February 2016, which was nominated for a “Grammy” award in the first round in the category “World music”.
“The Gloaming” have performed in the most popular music halls in Europe and USA –the National Concert Hall of Dublin, Royal Albert Hall in London, Lincoln Centre in New York and elsewhere with their concerts being sold out in a few days or even in a matter of hours. This year the list of names of the most significant halls will be accompanied by The Philharmonie de Paris, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Die Glocke in Bremen, as well as the recently opened Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.
